The program, that moderated by the Manager of Academic, Student and Cooperation Affairs, Rr. Present as a speaker, Adelia Khrisna Putri, S.Psi., M.Sc., Lecturer in the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada.

Within 2 hours, Adelia explained that according to a 2014 WHO report, suicide rates have become the second highest cause of death for people aged 15-29 years worldwide. In the Indonesian context, the lifetime prevalence of self-injury among Indonesian students was recorded at 38% in 2012, with 21% of these students also attempting suicide. This is familiar to the ear as a common psychological problem such as anxiety disorders, burnout, depression, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, and others.

Furthermore, the lecturer who completed his master’s study in Clinical Mental Health Sciences, University College London, United Kingdom, added that the big challenge faced today is the unconscious of various mental health risks. Besides that, community understanding related to approaches people who are facing mental health problems that are often judgmental and unable to listen attentively. “Sometimes what a person needs is not advice, only listening (active listener). Students who have problems related to the thesis may have the root of the problem which is the reason why the thesis/dissertation sometimes became stagnant” Adelia added.

Therefore, Adelia urges participants to be more aware of mental health problems and if they encounter symptoms or indications they can immediately seek help from professionals who are actually in various health centers. “Making things a priority sometimes causes a person to become depressed. Making a priority scale like the Eisenhower Box can help prevent stress. Besides that, consistently making a daily journal and breaking away from the habit of using a mobile phone before and after sleep can help. (Shine)
