The Master of Science and Doctoral Program (MD) FEB UGM has successfully held a Guest Lecture with the latest topic, “Metaverse and Developing Economics,” on December 16th, 2022, via Zoom meeting. This event which opened for public, took place from 08.30-10.30 WIB. The activity presented Prof. Nir Kshetri, Bryan School of Business and Economics, The University of Carolina-Greensboro, as a speaker and Prof. Mamduh M. Hanafi, M.B.A., Ph.D., Chair of the Doctor of Management Study Program FEB UGM, as moderator. Participants who attended were students, alumni, academics, practitioners, and the public.
In the modern era, metaverse is increasingly recognized as a new medium to connect. This advanced technology is useful in supporting various aspects. Prof. Nir started his presentation by explaining the metaverse. What is metaverse? Metaverse is a world of connected virtual communities where people can meet, work, and even transactions, through the help of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies. Thus, performance becomes more effective as the metaverse can expand its reach.
This metaverse application can apply in various fields, including economics. In economics, any industry can use this metaverse to facilitate economic activities in many sectors, from manufacturing to healthcare. Thus, the metaverse contributes to accelerating economic growth.
A lot of new things were obtained from discussing metaverse in this time. After the material session, participants actively participated in the question and answer session. It hoped that this event provide an understanding of the metaverse along with its functions, how it works, and how to use it properly. After two hours, the event ended with a group photo session. (Y)
