Friday, 20 October 2023, the FEB UGM Master of Science and Doctoral Program again held thesis development using Google Looker Studio material, a tool that has the ability to present data into reports that are easier to read, easy to read and informative. This thesis development presented Mr. I Gede Mujiyatna, S.Kom., M.Kom., a specialist in the field of information technology and lecturer at FMIPA UGM. This activity, which must be attended by students who are pursuing their thesis, is held offline at the BRI Auditorium, Fl. 3 Master of Science and Doctoral Building FEB UGM.
At the beginning of his material presentation, Mr. I Gede Mujiyatna, S.Kom., M.Kom., introduced Google Looker Studio, whose function is as a tool for data visualization, creating better data narratives which can ultimately produce good reports. The features contained in Google Looker Studio include SaaS, which is cloud-based software that can send applications to other users via the internet (SaaS is the main differentiator that Google Looker Studio has when compared to other data processing devices); complete reporting facilities; unlimited data links; Application Programming Interface (API); as well as collaboration features.
Furthermore, he also said that to run Google Looker Studio, there are several skills needed, namely understanding the Looker Studio interface, data sources, data organization, good data visualization methods, data analysis and report interaction. Considering that the main function of Google Looker Studio is data visualization, when using Google Looker Studio, the process will start from the output first. Visual data analysis is now becoming more interesting, because with it data graphs will be easier to understand, exploration of the structure and relationships between data will be faster, data narration will be easier, and interactivity will be possible.
After the material was explained, all participants were invited to practice together using Google Looker Studio. The discussion in this activity was very interactive, reflected in the various questions submitted by students. By holding this activity, it is hoped that students will be able to present good data visualizations using one of the tools, namely Google Looker Studio.
