The Master of Science and Doctoral (MD) Program of FEB UGM held a public lecture on April 26, 2024. The event was themed “Blockchain in the Luxury Goods Industry: Institutional, Strategic, and Organizational Considerations,” featuring Prof. Nir Kshetri from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, USA. The event was opened by Prof. Mamduh M. Hanafi, M.B.A., Ph.D., Head of the Doctoral Program in Management at FEB UGM.
The event took place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIB at the BRI Auditorium, 3rd Floor, Master of Science and Doctoral Building, FEB UGM.
The session began with opening remarks from Prof. Mamduh M. Hanafi, M.B.A.,
Ph.D. and followed by a brief introduction from Prof. Nir Kshetri before he presented on the phenomenon of blockchain. The discussion highlighted how blockchain can enhance the supply chain of luxury goods, which is often threatened by counterfeiting and fraud. He emphasized the importance of technological innovation in addressing challenges across various sectors, including the luxury goods industry, and shared in-depth insights on how this technology can transform stakeholder interactions. Additionally, he provided examples related to the topic of the public lecture.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where several participants had the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with Prof. Nir Kshetri. This event not only broadened participants’ understanding of the role of innovation in the luxury goods industry but also aimed to help them comprehend the evolving nature of the luxury goods sector in adapting to changing times.
