The Master of Science in Accounting Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UGM received a visit from Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI). This offline visit was in the context of a comparative study related to the opening of the Master of Science in Accounting Program at FE UNSRI. The event opened by Ms. Zuni Barokah, M.Comm., Ph.D., Chair of the Master of Science in Accounting Study Program, FEB UGM, by introducing herself and all meeting participants from UGM. Furthermore, representatives from FE UNSRI explained the purpose of the visit clearly, including points to be discussed in comparative study activities. In connection with this goal, the two representatives from FE UNSRI, Mr. Arista Hakiki, the Head of the Accounting Department of FE UNSRI, and Dr. E. Yusnaini, S.E., M.Sc., Ak., the Secretary of the Establishment Team for the Master of Science in Accounting FE UNSRI, expected views and input on the steps that must be taken to open the Master of Science in Accounting Program and the uniqueness that must be built.
The next session was the presentation of the Master of Science in Accounting Program by Mrs. Zuni Barokah, M.Comm., Ph.D., regarding the vision and mission, the timeline of the Master of Accounting Science Program, competency objectives and learning focus, curriculum (distribution of courses and concentrations offered), study period and giving warning letters to students, distribution of supervisors, academic leave, rules for awarding cum laude predicates, and the uniqueness of the Master of Science in Accounting Program FEB UGM. In the presentation, Ms. Zuni explained that the Master of Science in Accounting refers to and prioritizes research capabilities.
After the presentation, there was a question and answer session, which resulted in several conclusions. First, to open a new study program, it is necessary to establish a philosophical vision and mission that is in line with the vision and mission of the university, faculties, and departments. Second, it is necessary to establish an appropriate curriculum and have a clear competency goal and objective learning. Third, to open a new study program, it is needed to look for uniqueness to be included in the curriculum, for example learning methods, types of concentration, and learning outcomes. Fourth, necessary to provide adequate facilities and infrastructure to support learning.
This comparative study activity was very interactive and discussed various things related to the preparation that had to be made to open the Master of Science in Accounting Program. The question and answer session also went well. Based on the discussion’s results, FE UNSRI will consider various suggested things, which adjusted to the program’s vision and competencies. The visit to the Master of Science Program in Accounting FEB UGM ended with giving souvenirs from both parties and group photo session. (Y)
