The Master of Science and Doctoral Program of FEB UGM held Academic Briefing and Researcher’s Enrichment Program (REACH) activities as a form of welcoming new students for the even period 2023/2024 for 3 days on Monday, Friday and Saturday, February 12, 24 and 25, 2024. The first day’s activities were carried out online via ZOOM and for the next session it was held on the FEB UGM Master of Science and Doctoral campuses and attended by all new students of both the Master of Science (S2) and Doctoral (S3) Programs.
On the first day, a series of Academic Briefing and REACH activities were opened with remarks and reports from representatives of the MD FEB UGM program manager delivered by Mrs. Heni Wahyuni, S.E., M.Ec.Dev., Ph.D., as chairman of the Master of Science in Economics Study Program. Furthermore, there was a Curriculum and Academic Briefing by each head of the study program. The MD Program of FEB UGM has curriculum and academic arrangements that will produce graduates with strong theoretical knowledge and qualified academic research skills.
On the second day, it began with the UGM Philosophy Seminar delivered by Prof. Dr. dr. Sutaryo, Sp.A. (K). He conveyed the history of the establishment of UGM, UGM values, UGM’s work for the nation and state and the philosophy of the UGM symbol. He also said that there are 5 UGM identities from the history of its establishment, namely national university, university of struggle, Pancasila university, populist university and university of cultural center.
The next session was the introduction of student organizations in the MD FEB UGM environment, namely FORKOMSI (Communication Forum for Master of Science) and IMADEBGAMA (Doctoral Student Association FEB UGM) delivered by Rizqi Umar Al-Hashfi, as Chairperson of IMADEBGAMA then continued by Syafika Dhea, as Chairperson of FORKOMSI and followed by the vice chairman and head of division who were able to attend. The introduction of the organization was filled with a presentation about the organization, membership, goals and work programs of the organization.
On the third day, the activity began with morning gymnastics and fun games guided by FORKOMSI and IMADEBGAMA, followed by a speech from the MD FEB UGM Program Manager who officially opened the REACH Program. After a group photo by all students, managers and education staff in front of the FEB UGM Learning center building, there was a dove and balloon release session as a sign of welcoming new MD FEB UGM students. Then, the activity continued with Scholar’s Day Out to introduce the campus environment to new students.
The next session was the delivery of Academic Support Tools by Prof. Catur Sugiyanto, M.A., Ph.D., to introduce all educational staff and assistants at MD FEB UGM as well as all facilities and facilities that can be used by students on the MD FEB UGM campus.
The activity continued with the delivery of the Vision and Mission and Values of FEB by Prof. Jogiyanto Hartono M., M.B.A., Ph.D., as the Head of the Accounting Science Doctoral Study Program conveyed the Vision and Mission and Values of FEB to all new students who must be known as guidelines in behaving in accordance with the identity and cultural values of FEB UGM. He also explained about Research Based Learning (RBL), which is using research in the learning process, this focuses on students & lecturers to understand the content of research used to do class assignments & the research process that will be used to prepare theses and dissertations. Some of the benefits of RBL include helping students raise their cognitive competence to a higher level, namely to the level of analysis, synthesis, and even creation of new ones. Improve students’ ability to develop knowledge and improve their problem-solving skills more effectively.
The next material session was Student Mental Health from Dr. Ridwan Saptoto, S.Psi., M.A. In his material, he said that student mental health during the study period is very important to maintain. He gave some tips to maintain student mental health, namely refreshing and always being in a positive and supportive environment.
Furthermore, the presentation related to Writing Academic Documents and Anti-Plagiarism was delivered by Mr. Fu’ad Rakhman, M.Sc., Ph.D. In his material, he explained what must be done and considered to produce reputable academic writing and avoid plagiarism.
The last material session, there was material about Communication Skill by Mrs. Rr. Tur Nastiti, M.Sc., Ph.D. She said that good, correct and effective communication is very important and necessary in the academic field. In her material, she also conveyed some tips & tricks in communicating both orally and in writing in the academic field.
The REACH Program was closed with the announcement of the winners of the group game competition. All Academic Briefing and REACH Program activities ran smoothly and all participants followed with great enthusiasm.
