Yogyakarta, February 2nd-3rd, 2022
The Master of Science and Doctoral Program of FEB UGM held the Academic Briefing and Researchers’ Enrichment Program (REACH Program) for new students in the 2021/2022 Even Semester. This activity lasts for two days, Wednesday-Thursday, February 2nd -3rd, 2022. This activity for new students is carried out online through a Zoom meeting. A total of 79 new students from the Master of Science and Doctoral Program attended the full activity.
The First Day
On the first day, the event began with remarks and a report from the representative of the MD FEB UGM manager, Dr. Sahid Susilo Nugroho, M.Sc., as Head of the Master of Management Science Program. In session I, Prof. Jogiyanto Hartono M., M.B.A., Ph.D., conveyed the vision and mission, the values of FEB, and the curriculum of the MD FEB UGM Program. In session II, the new students also received information about the academic and non-academic regulations of the MD FEB UGM Program from Prof. Mamduh Mahmadah Hanafi, M.B.A., Ph.D. and Mrs. Zuni Barokah, M.Comm., Ph.D.
In session III, there was a presentation of Campus Life by Prof. Catur Sugiyanto, M.A., Ph.D and Time Management by Dr. Sahid Susilo Nugroho, M.Sc. The atmosphere of the UGM campus is beautiful and aesthetic, making the spirit of learning even more fun. The MD FEB UGM program can facilitate various student needs, ranging from classrooms, discussion rooms, laboratories, sports rooms, to international journal subscription facilities. Several tourist destinations in Yogyakarta are also quite a lot as a refreshing medium. Campus life will run smoothly with optimal results if you apply time management. Effective timing will reduce problems and complaints. MD FEB UGM students are also forged to be tough and never give up with student-centered learning (SCL) designs and internationally accredited curriculum standards.
The series of events on the first day ended with a Communication Skill session by Mrs. Rr. Nastiti Tour, M.Sc., Ph.D. Communication skill is very important to learn because related to the learning system at MD FEB UGM, namely SCL, which positions students as the center of learning, so they are required to be active and able to communicate well orally and in writing.
The Second Day
Session I on the second day was the UGM Philosophy Seminar, which was accompanied by Prof. Dr. dr. Sutaryo, Sp.A.(K) and became a very extraordinary event because it told the origins of the founding of UGM, UGM’s work, UGM values, and the philosophical value of the UGM symbol and flag. Thus, new students know the history of UGM which was founded by the Indonesian people themselves and is a national university, university of struggle, university of Pancasila, university of the people, and university of cultural center (5 UGM identities).
Session II was an explanation of the SCL learning system by Prof. Jogiyanto Hartono M., M.B.A., Ph.D. He explained that the SCL (Student-Centered Learning) applied at MD FEB UGM is an active learning system centered on students as learners. The MD FEB UGM program applies SCL in the form of Research-Based Learning (RBL). RBL is one of the SCL methods that use research as a learning base. The purpose of implementing RBL is to provide the latest sources of knowledge to form critical, analytical, active students so they can produce research on interesting topics.
In session III, Prof. Catur Sugiyanto, M.A., Ph.D., told the various units of academic support tools in the MD and FEB UGM buildings. All facilities are designed and adapted to the learning atmosphere in the FEB UGM environment. Academic services are also well guaranteed because it accompanied by professional staff. Next, an explanation of writing an academic document and anti-plagiarism was given by Mrs. Heni Wahyuni, M.Ec.Dev., Ph.D. She emphasized the importance of writing and how to write good research that is relevant to current issues. She also said that plagiarism should be avoided, then gave various tips to avoid it.
The series of events ended with an interesting session, the introduction of student organizations at MD FEB UGM, namely Forkomsi and IMADEBGAMA. Both of them act as bridges between students and managers in various activities that can support common goals. The organization facilitates several academic activities that support study and accommodate student aspirations for a better academic life. (Y)
