The Master of Science in the Faculty of Economics and Business at Gadjah Mada University (UGM)
The development of Indonesia’s economy has successfully driven significant economic growth accompanied by a structural transformation in the economy. As known, Indonesia is transitioning from an agriculture and oil-based economy to an economy grounded in new and advanced industries in the Asian region (a Newly and Progressively Industrialized Country). The recent global economic developments undoubtedly pose challenges to sustainable development. The increasing integration of the world economy opens opportunities for economic growth but also makes Indonesia more vulnerable to global economic fluctuations, demanding the creation of resilient and competitive human resources for global competition.
The challenges to economic development and the integration of the global economy raise the demand for strong and competitive economists, business practitioners, and analysts on an international level. In response to these needs, the Faculty of Economics and Business at Gadjah Mada University is committed to serving the Indonesian nation by offering the Master of Science program in the fields of Economics, Management, and Accounting.
The teaching materials and methods in the Master of Science program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Gadjah Mada University, are designed to shape graduates with the ability to conduct independent research and possess in-depth knowledge and theoretical concepts. Engaging with highly-ranked academic journals, both theoretical and applied, studying conventional and contemporary textbooks, is an academic culture deeply rooted in the Master of Science program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Gadjah Mada University. Students are challenged to work hard to harmonize themselves with the academic culture and meet the academic requirements that define the UGM identity. Regular Class
Normal Study Period: 24 months
Compulsory and elective courses are taken over 3 semesters (38 credits) with 1 semester dedicated to the Thesis (9 credits)
Master of Science in Accounting Program
The educational objectives of the Master’s Program in Accounting are as follows:
Develop critical abilities, mastery, and expertise in the theory and practice of accounting to approach and reason scientifically whenever faced with problems in the field of accounting.
Develop skills and abilities to conduct scientific research in accounting based on academic freedom and ethics. Broaden insights and acquire sufficient knowledge to develop further studies in the field of accounting.
Based on these educational objectives, graduates of the Accounting Program, with the title Master of Science in Accounting (M.Sc.), are expected to excel in:
Broad thinking and deep understanding of the knowledge in the field of accounting.
Mastery of advanced knowledge in various aspects of accounting.
Ability to use modern information technology to solve problems and process accounting information.
Mastery of research methods and statistical analysis, with the ability to implement them in accounting research.
Ability to express opinions orally and in writing.
Master of Science in Management Program
The Management program aims to enhance students’ scientific knowledge and abilities in the field of management.
The expected competencies of graduates with the title Master of Science in Management (M.Sc.) include:
Scientific capabilities and expertise in management, for both professional duties and teaching assignments at universities.
Ability to conduct in-depth studies and independent research in their field.
Academic skills foundation to pursue further studies.
Master of Science in Economics Program
The educational goal is to facilitate students in acquiring strong theoretical knowledge and research skills, developing new principles, and upholding scientific integrity in the field of economics. Graduates of the Economics Program, with the title Master of Science in Economics (M.Sc.), are expected to:
Acquire advanced theoretical knowledge, methodological skills, and research in the field of economics.
Demonstrate the ability to identify, integrate, and analyze literature in economics to create new knowledge by building testable research propositions and hypotheses.
