Blockchain is an interesting innovation that is very applicable for digital data storage. This technology is connected through cryptography and can execute transactions more conveniently. Following the development of blockchain, many benefits can be obtained in the present. This current issue needs to be understood further. After successfully holding a webinar series about blockchain, the Master of Science and Doctoral Program FEB UGM held a workshop with the topic “Blockchain in Developing Countries.” This event presents Prof. Nir Kshetri from The University of North Carolina, USA, as the speaker and Prof. Dr. Mamduh M. Hanafi from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada, as moderator.

The Master of Science and Doctoral (MD) Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada received a visit from Universitas Palangka Raya (UPR) and Universitas Tanjungpura (UNTAN). The visit was carried out online in the context of a comparative study by FEB UPR and FEB UNTAN with the Doctor of Science in Management Program FEB UGM. In this event, FEB UPR and FEB UNTAN were represented by managers, staff, and lecturers, then the MD FEB UGM Program presented managers and staff of the MD program. The purpose of this visit is to conduct a comparative study on the Doctor of Science in Management Program related to the plan of the Universitas Palangka Raya to open a Doctor of Management Program. Universitas Tanjungpura also attended to provide advice regarding his experience of having just run the Doctor of Management program while increasing his knowledge through a comparative study to MD FEB UGM.

Cryptocurrency semakin populer dikenal sebagai alat pembayaran alternatif selain mata uang resmi. Problematika dan masa depan crypto kemudian muncul seiring dengan kemajuan praktik penggunaannya. Berkaca dari hal tersebut, Program Magister Sains dan Doktor FEB UGM mengadakan diskusi menarik pada tanggal 12 November dalam sesi webinar dengan topik “Cryptocurrency Dalam Perspektif Syariah: Problematika dan Masa Depan” yang menghadirkan Prof. Dian Masyita, Ph.D. dan Bapak Eddy Junarsin, MBA., Ph.D., CFP sebagai pembicara. Acara tersebut dipandu oleh Bapak Usman Arief, S.E., MSM. Webinar yang terbuka untuk umum ini dihadiri sebanyak 216 peserta yang berasal dari kalangan dosen, mahasiswa, alumni, hingga praktisi.

In November, the Master of Science and Doctoral Program (MD) FEB UGM held a webinar activity again with the interesting topics that were still related to the previous webinar session. The webinar was successfully held online through a Zoom meeting on November 5th, 2021. The first topic discussed was “Big Data’s Role in Broadening Financial Inclusion in Developing Countries” and continued with the discussion of the second topic, “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Promoting Financial Inclusion in Developing Countries.”

The Guest Lecture is a routine agenda for the Master of Science and Doctoral Program (MD) FEB UGM. On Friday, October 29, 2021, the Guest Lecture session II was successfully held through a Zoom meeting. On this occasion, the topic raised was also related to the previous session, namely “Distributive and Welfare Values of Blockchain-Based Smart Contracts.” The second session was guided by Prof. Dr. Mamduh M. Hanafi, M.B.A., by presenting the same speaker as the first session, namely Prof. Nir Kshetri from The University of North Carolina, USA. Prof. Nir is an academic and researcher who is active in the field of entrepreneurship, then combines blockchain systems.
