On Friday, May 31, 2024, the Master of Science and Doctoral (MD) Program of FEB UGM successfully held a scientific discussion event called the MD Accounting Research Forum. This event featured Agung Septia Wibowo, a Doctoral student of Accounting Science at FEB UGM, as the speaker. This research forum raised the topic “Does Integrity Matter in Enhancing Financial Reporting Quality? Empirical Evidence from Local Governments in Indonesia.” The event was officially opened by Fu’ad Rakhman, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., CA., as the Head of the Master of Science in Accounting at FEB UGM.
Saturday, May 18, 2024, the Master of Science and Doctoral Program of FEB UGM held a field study activity and a visit to a tourist village at Resto Bukit Cubung, Kulon Progo. This activity was attended by 50 participants consisting of students and educational staff as well as Prof. Dr. Catur Sugiyanto, MA., and Dr. Sahid Susilo Nugroho, M.Sc. representing the program management.
The Master of Science and Doctoral Program of FEB UGM held a thesis coaching on Friday, May 17, 2024. The topic of this thesis coaching session was “Validity and Reliability Test”
featuring Naila Zulfa, M.A., M.S., PGDip., Ph.D., FHEA, a lecturer from the Department of Management at FEB UGM.
This event was conducted offline from 13:30 to 15:00 WIB in the BRI Auditorium, 3rd Floor, Master of Science and Doctoral Building, FEB UGM.
In this thesis coaching session, validity and reliability testing were highlighted as crucial steps that every researcher must undertake. Validity aims to ensure that the instrument used genuinely measures what it is supposed to measure, while reliability aims to ensure the consistency of results when the instrument is used under the same conditions repeatedly. During her presentation, Naila Zulfa, M.A., M.S., PGDip., Ph.D., FHEA, explained validity and reliability testing with a focus on reflective constructs. By ensuring the validity and reliability of research instruments, researchers can guarantee that the data collected is accurate and reliable. This is essential for making meaningful contributions to the field of science and ensuring that research results can be used to make informed, evidence-based decisions.
In the question and answer session, several students expressed interest in the topic of validity and reliability. The discussion between students and the lecturer was highly productive, with many inputs from the lecturer providing solutions to their concerns. The event concluded with a group photo.
The Master of Science and Doctoral Program of FEB UGM held a workshop lecture from the Faculty of Economics and Business UGM on May 17, 2024. This event invited Prof. Elena Stancanelli who is the Research Director of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) from Paris School of Economics as the main speaker. The topic discussed at this workshop lecture was “Work from Home, Productivity, and Household Time Allocation.” This event was officially opened by Dea Yustisia, S.E., M.Sc. as a Lecturer at the Department of Economics FEB UGM.
The workshop lecture was held out offline at 08.30-11.00 WIB in Lippo Room, 2nd Floor of the Master of Science and Doctoral Building FEB UGM.
The lecture began with a brief introduction by Prof. Elena Stancanelli. She delved into articles highlighting various concepts of work from home and related gender issues. One of her points was to explain the challenges faced by married women in entering the workforce due to restrictions and household responsibilities. She emphasized that social expectations often put additional pressure on women to prioritize their domestic roles over their professional careers. Prof. Elena Stancanelli also stressed the importance of gender equality in housework and providing fairer opportunities for women in the workplace. With the support and cooperation of their partners, as well as understanding from society, women can have more freedom to develop and contribute fully in their chosen fields.
In addition, Prof. Elena Stancanelli shared tips on how to balance productivity and household responsibilities through work-from-home-friendly online job postings. She also provided flexible ways to manage work with good time allocation in between presentations. Not to be missed, participants actively asked questions and engaged in discussions during the Q&A session, which concluded with an award ceremony and a group photo.
On Thursday, May 16, 2024, the Master of Science and Doctoral Program of FEB UGM once again held a general lecture event with intriguing topic “Experiment Method for Advanced Research in Economics and Business Paper Presentation,” featuring Prof. Ben Choi from Nanyang Technological University as the keynote speaker. This event was started by Prof. Mamduh Mahmadah Hanafi, M.B.A., Ph.D. as the Head of the Doctoral Program in Management Science at FEB UGM for giving his greeting speech
This event was held from 09:00 to 15:00 WIB in the Lippo Room, 2nd Floor, Master of Science and Doctoral Building, FEB UGM.
A brief introduction by Prof. Ben Choi started this event. He highlighted one of the research methods, namely experiments. Experiments can provide very in-depth and specific causal results that are very useful for identifying cause-and-effect relationships and gaining a deeper understanding of dynamics in the context of economics and business. Prof. Ben Choi also explained that there are various types of experiments. He then presented several articles related to this experimental method. One of them is titled “Encouraging Eco-driving with Post-trip Visualized Storytelling: An Experiment Combining Eye-Tracking and a Driving Simulator,” which integrates the mental construal literature to reveal feasibility and desirability perceptions as underlying mechanisms.
Next, Prof. Ben Choi focused on thesis coaching for students interested in the experimental method to discuss with several experts and fellow students in the final session. The event concluded with a group photo.
Tuesday, May 7, 2024, the Master of Science and Doctoral Program of FEB UGM held another guest lecture with “Academic Research and Publication Workshop on Gender and
Sustainability Issues” as a theme by inviting Prof. Yenn-Ru Chen and Prof. Chia-Hsiang Weng from National Cheng Chi University (NCCU) as the main speakers. This event was officially opened by Prof. Mamduh Mahmadah Hanafi, M.B.A., Ph.D. as the Head of the Doctoral Program in Management Science at FEB UGM
This event was held offline at 09.30-12.00 WIB at the BRI Auditorium, 3rd floor and continued in the Lippo room, 2nd floor of the Master of Science and Doctoral Building FEB UGM until 15.00 PM.
The guest lecture began with a brief introduction by Prof. Yenn-Ru Chen and Prof. Chia-Hsiang Weng before starting the material. In the first presentation, Prof. Chia-Hsiang Weng, or often called Prof. Mike Weng, presented an article on News Media Political Ideology and Corporate Voluntary Environment Social Governance (ESG) Disclosures. He reviewed news media political ideology and corporate voluntary ESG disclosures. Later on, the event was continued by Prof. Yenn-Ru Chen who highlighted gender issues, especially reviewing the findings of several articles focusing on female workers in a country. She presented the second session by interacting with the participants. Furthermore, the last session focused on thesis coaching from students who had sustainability-related topics to discuss with several experts and fellow students. The event concluded with an award ceremony and a memorable group photo.
The Master of Science and Doctoral Program of FEB UGM held a job market paper presentation with the title “Sustainability Disclosure Quality, Sustainability Assurance, and Analyst Forecast Accuracy” on May 6, 2024. This event was held by inviting Berto Usman, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D. from Bengkulu University who was also an alumnus of the Master of Science in Management.
The event was conducted offline and started at 15.00 PM in the Lippo Room of the Master of Science and Doctoral Building of FEB UGM. The research forum started off with a brief introduction by Berto Usman, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D. This was followed by a captivating presentation that highlighted the distinction between Sustainability Disclosure Quality and Analyst Forecast Accuracy in companies listed on the European Stock Exchange and indexed within Environmentally Sensitive Industries (ESIs). Throughout the presentation, participants actively listened and took notes, their enthusiasm evident in their engaged participation during the discussion. Several participants ask some questions, demonstrating that they hold a strong grasp of the topic at hand. This Q&A session also provided an opportunity for participants to share their perspectives and experiences related to the implementation of sustainability policies within their respective companies. The ensuing discussion was highly productive, with a wealth of innovative ideas and solutions emerging. The forum concluded with a closing remark from Berto Usman, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., who summarized the key takeaways and encouraged participants to continue exploring the intersection of sustainability disclosure quality and analyst forecast accuracy.
On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the Master of Science and Doctoral Program at FEB UGM once again organized a guest lecture with the theme “Influencer Marketing: The Power of Online Advocacy.” The event features Peter Andrews, Senior Lecturer in Digital and Social Media Marketing and Strategic Partnership Director from the University of Hull, as the keynote speaker.
The event was conducted online via the ZOOM application from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.
The guest lecture began with a brief introduction by Peter Andrews before delving into the main topic. During his presentation, he discussed influencer marketing in general. Peter Andrews described influencer marketing as a strategy that involves brands partnering with individuals who hold substantial influence on social media. He highlighted how the power of online advocacy from influencers can affect consumer behavior and extend a brand’s reach. Nowadays, Influencers play an increasingly important role as their presence provides significant opportunities for brands to expand their reach and enhance visibility. With their online advocacy power, influencers can create a positive impact on a brand’s image, attract consumer interest, and increase product sales. Therefore, collaborating with influencers who align with the brand’s values and vision can be a wise strategy to expand the market and build strong consumer relationships.
During his presentation, Peter often includes small quizzes to interact with the participants. Many students enthusiastically provide their answers. Additionally, the event includes group discussions to solve cases presented by Peter. He engages with student groups and asks about their progress. This lecture successfully creates a collaborative learning environment, encouraging students to share their thoughts. This event highlights the challenges in research where information is easily accessible from various online sources, featuring Raymond Tjipto and Seniti Prawira from Populix as the main speakers. The theme is “Transforming Research: Digital Data Collection with Poplite.” The event began with an opening speech by Mamduh Mahmadah Hanafi, Ph.D., M.B.A., who serves as the Head of the Doctoral Program in Management Science at FEB UGM.
The hybrid event is held from 10:00 to 11:45 AM WIB in the Lippo Room, 2nd Floor of the Master’s and Doctoral Building at FEB UGM.

The first session will be presented by Raymond Tjipto, Head of Strategy and Business Operations, providing an overview of Populix and Poplite as well as the reasons behind the changes in current research, particularly the differences between traditional and digital data
collection. The second session will be led by Seniti Prawira, Project Management Lead, introducing Poplite as a research tool for primary data collection. She will also provide guidelines and tips on accessing Poplite, easily enabling researchers to obtain primary data through Poplite’s features.
