The Master of Science and Doctoral Program in Economics FEB UGM held a webinar entitled “Factors of Success in Writing Good and Productive Textbooks for Lecturers: Sharing the Experience of Writing Books for 40 years. Organizing this event greatly facilitates academics to gain knowledge in writing good and productive textbooks also understand the tips for success. Through the experience of writing books for 40 years from Prof. Jogiyanto Hartono M, M.B.A., CMA., Ph.D., the participant obtained a comprehensive understanding of the good and productive book.
In the webinar session moderated by Prof. Mamduh M. Hanafi, M.B.A., Ph.D., Prof. Jogi told how his journey in writing textbooks consistently. On average, he writes one book per year. According to him, writing books consistently is much better because it supports writing quality books. He who is consistent in his work also shared four factors that make him successful in writing good and productive textbooks.
The first important factor is motivation in writing a book. Second, the target or reader of the book written. That is important so that the writing of the book is directed and successful in the market. The third success factor is building the values of good book writing, namely anti-plagiarism, comprehensiveness, and other good values that do not deviate. The last factor is to make careful planning related to the book’s content so that the book that compiled becomes systematic.
Now, he has been working for 40 years and produced 55 books, which there are books of his work and books of joint work. During those 40 years, Prof. Jogi always evaluates his work so that he can produce the next books successfully. He also suggested that you always look for a competitive advantage from yourself. That is important for you to be able in writing books on certain topics according to your expertise or competence. Thus, the credibility of the book written is getting stronger, and the results are very relevant.
The participants consisting of 101 people who are academics from various universities are very enthusiastic about joining this webinar. Many questions were asked by participants regarding the success factors in writing a textbook, especially related to the experience of Prof. Jogiyanto. The discussion went smoothly and was very interactive. Thus, this event is expected to bridge the academics to actively publish books as a contribution to the field of education.
