Monday, October 20, 2025, the Master of Science and Doctoral Program (MD) FEB UGM held a Guest Lecture with the interesting topic “Concept of Sustainable Development” by inviting Prof. Budy P. Resosudarmo from the Australian National University as the main speaker. This guest lecture was moderated by Eny Sulistyaningrum, M.A., Ph.D as a Lecturer in the Department of Economics FEB

UGM. This activity was carried out offline at 10:00–12:30 WIB in the Lippo Room, 2nd Floor of the Master of Science and Doctoral Building FEB UGM.

In his presentation, Prof. Budy P. Resosudarmo comprehensively explained the concept of sustainable development, from its early history to its development, now embodied in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He emphasized that sustainability is not simply an environmental issue, but also encompasses integrated social and economic dimensions. Through a systematic presentation, Prof. Budy illustrated how the SDGs serve as a global guideline for promoting inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development.

He further discussed the implementation of the SDGs in Indonesia, including the challenges and opportunities faced in integrating sustainability principles into national development policies. He also presented an analysis of Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) development and its relationship to achieving sustainable development goals. Using the latest economic data and trends, Prof. Budy encouraged participants to understand how economic growth can be directed beyond mere numerical focus to consider long-term sustainability. The event was interactive, with numerous critical questions from participants, reflecting the high enthusiasm for deepening their understanding of sustainability within the context of the national economy. The event concluded with a group photo session, marking the end of this insightful and inspiring guest lecture.
