Saturday, May 18, 2024, the Master of Science and Doctoral Program of FEB UGM held a field study activity and a visit to a tourist village at Resto Bukit Cubung, Kulon Progo. This activity was attended by 50 participants consisting of students and educational staff as well as Prof. Dr. Catur Sugiyanto, MA., and Dr. Sahid Susilo Nugroho, M.Sc. representing the program management.

The first field study activity was a presentation by Mr. Tarsisius Catur Budi Nugraha, a Doctoral Student of Management Science at FEB UGM. He explained the aspects that need to be considered in developing strategies for tourist villages. In addition, Mr. Catur also shared his experience working on pioneering a tourist village as an example. The discussion was very interactive and enthusiastic. The participants’ enthusiasm was very high, followed by their active participation in presenting design ideas and development strategies for the tourist village based on the village’s potential and natural wealth.

Then, the field study continued with a presentation by Mrs. Tristi Sintawati, one of the managers of the Jatirejo Tourist Village. Mrs. Tristi explained the programs that Jatirejo Tourist Village had carried out and outlined various initiatives that had been taken, from developing comfortable and environmentally friendly infrastructure to organizing traditional wedding and meeting packages. This has proven to be a great potential to develop into an attractive tourist destination while maintaining the preservation of local nature and culture.

After the presentations, all participants had lunch together, chatting while enjoying the fresh air and the green, lush, and shaded scenery around Resto Bukit Cubung. Some took photos, while others simply sat on park benches. After the lunch session, the participants were invited to conduct direct observations at several points of tourist potential. They visited areas with many large trees, green fields, traditional buildings that are still well-preserved, and the hills surrounding Resto Bukit Cubung. Not to forget, the participants also feasted delicious traditional snacks and Es Legen Cubung, a specialty of Resto Bukit Cubung. This field study activity not only increased the knowledge but also provided insights and practicals on how to design strategies for managing a tourist village. The field study activity was concluded with a group photo before returning to the Master of S
