The Master of Science and Doctoral Program at FEB UGM organized Pengarahan Akademik dan Researcher’s Enrichment Program (REACH) as a welcoming event for new students of the 2024/2025 academic year in two days on Thursday, August 8, 2024, and Saturday, August 10, 2024.
On the first day, the series of events for the Academic Orientation and REACH began with a welcoming speech and report from the representative of the MD FEB UGM program management, delivered by Prof. Dr. Jogiyanto Hartono Mustakini, M.B.A., Ak., CMA., CA., as the Head of the Doctoral Program in Accounting. Next, there was a session on the Vision and Mission, as well as the Values of FEB, presented by Prof. Dr. Jogiyanto Hartono Mustakini, M.B.A., Ak., CMA., CA. Following this session, the agenda continued with Curriculum, Academic, and Non-Academic Guidance provided by each program head. The MD FEB UGM program has a curriculum and academic structure designed to produce graduates with strong theoretical knowledge and excellent academic research capabilities. Each program head also provided an introduction to Campus Life Time Management for the new students.
After the students had taken a break for lunch and prayer, the agenda on the first day continued with an introduction to student organizations within MD FEB UGM, namely FORKOMSI (Forum Komunikasi Magister Sains) by Andi Mohammad Riyaldi Kahfianka and IMADEBGAMA (Ikatan Mahasiswa Doktor FEB UGM) by Rizqi Umar Al-Hashfib. The introduction session included an explanation of the organizations, their membership, objectives, and work programs. This was followed by a Seminar on UGM Philosophy delivered by Prof. Dr. dr. Sutaryo, Sp.A.(K). He discussed the history of UGM’s founding, the values of UGM, UGM’s contributions to the nation, and the philosophy behind the UGM emblem. He also mentioned that UGM has five core identities from its history: a national university, a university of struggle, a Pancasila university, a people’s university, and a center of culture. Towards the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Jogiyanto Hartono Mustakini, M.B.A., Ak., CMA., CA. returned to provide a presentation on Student Centered Learning (SCL), emphasizing the importance of this approach in enhancing student engagement and the quality of learning. The presentation inspired the participants to prioritize the active role of students in the teaching and learning process in the classroom.
On the second day, the activities began with a morning exercise led by FORKOMSI and IMADEBGAMA, followed by a welcoming speech from the MD FEB UGM Program Management, which also officially opened the REACH Program. After a group photo with all the students, program management, and staff at the Bukit Cubung Restaurant courtyard in Kulon Progo, there was a pigeon release ceremony to welcome the new MD FEB UGM students. The event then continued with the exciting Academic Communication Games led by Mrs. Tur Nastiti, M.Si., Ph.D., and Mrs. Indrianingsih, S.Psi. The students were very creative and enjoyed this session before taking a break for lunch.
The session continued with a presentation on Yogyakarta’s Customs and Etiquette by Dr. Sri Ratna Saktimulya, M.Hum. The new students enthusiastically listened to the material presented and actively participated in discussions about several Javanese proverbs. They shared their opinions and interpretations, enriching their understanding of local wisdom. As the event drew to a close, a motivational session titled ‘Being Strong is Never Wrong’ was delivered by Brian Gregory Adhihendra, M.Sc., an alumnus of the MSi Management Program. This session provided in-depth insights and motivation to the students, emphasizing the importance of mental strength and resilience in facing academic and life challenges.
The REACH Program concluded with a thank you from the MC to all participants and the organizing committee. The entire series of Academic Orientation and REACH Program events ran smoothly, with participants following each session with high enthusiasm, creating an atmosphere full of energy and friendship.
