The Doctoral Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UGM received a visit from the YKPN School of Economics (STIE). The visit was conducted online in the context of a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) related to the opening of the Accounting Doctoral Program at STIE YKPN. In this event, the FGD team from STIE YKPN opened the event by clearly conveying the purpose of the visit, including the points to be discussed in the FGD activity. In the initial presentation, the team from STIE YKPN said that many of the teaching staff or lecturers at YKPN had obtained professor positions, so they met the requirements to establish a Doctoral Program. They want to learn and listen to the experiences of lecturers from FEB UGM in running the Doctoral Program.
The next session after the initial presentation was a speech from Prof. Jogiyanto Hartono M., M.B.A., CMA., Ph.D., Head of the Doctoral Program in Accounting, who welcomed the entire FGD team from STIE YKPN. Next, Prof. Jogi gave his response regarding the purpose of STIE YKPN to open a Doctor of Accounting Program. According to Prof. Jogi, there is one uniqueness that must be built if you want to open an Accounting Doctoral Program so that there is no conflict with other universities, where this uniqueness can make a difference for the Accounting Doctoral Program of STIE YKPN compared to programs from other universities. He also hopes that lecturers from the FEB UGM Doctoral Program can work together and help realize this noble goal.
After the presentation from Prof. Jogi, the FGD team from STIE YKPN gave a response regarding the uniqueness that must be owned. This uniqueness will be analyzed through the research activities of lecturers, especially those who have the title of professor, so the home-based research can be known. The FGD team also conveyed some of the advantages of the institution, namely, having been active in education since 1980, developing study program levels (S1, S2, and S3), having adequate facilities and infrastructure, having quality lecturers with adequate academic degrees and positions, and being able to realize long-term planning. To fulfill one of the requirements to open a Doctoral Program, which is to conduct FGD at least three times, the team also added that UGM is one of its partners.
Furthermore, there is a complete explanation of the vision, mission, curriculum, learning achievements, special skills, and graduate profiles. Prof. Jogi added that all components formulated must be in line with the vision. A quality assurance control process is also required to ensure quality.
This Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was very interactive and discussed various things related to the preparations that had to be made to open the Doctor of Accountancy Program. The question and answer session also went well. Based on the results of the discussion, STEI YKPN will consider various suggested things, which adjusted to the program’s vision and competencies. Finally, the visit for the FGD was finished and ended with a closing and a group photo session. (Y)
