The Master of Science and Doctoral Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Gadjah Mada University (FEB UGM) held an Experimental Research Design Workshop on February 25-26, 2026, themed “Introduction to Design & Practice of Experimental Research.” The event featured Felix Septianto, Ph.D. (Associate Professor from the University of Queensland) as the keynote speaker and took place online via Zoom Meeting from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM WIB.
This workshop was designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of experimental research design, particularly in the context of management and business research. The workshop addressed not only conceptual aspects but also emphasized hands-on practice in developing systematic, valid, and applicable experimental designs.
On the first day, participants received a presentation on the foundations of experimental research design, from formulating research questions and hypotheses, determining variables, developing treatments, and strategies for maintaining internal and external validity. The session also included an interactive discussion and Q&A session, where participants actively asked questions related to methodological challenges often encountered in developing experimental research.
The second day of the workshop focused on workshops and discussions. Participants were encouraged to begin designing their own experimental designs under direct guidance from the resource persons. In these sessions, participants presented research ideas, discussed the feasibility of the designs, and received constructive feedback to strengthen their methodological aspects. This approach provided a more practical and in-depth learning experience.
The participants’ enthusiasm was evident in their active participation throughout the two days. Through these workshops, students are expected to develop more rigorous and relevant experimental research designs, ready for implementation in their theses or dissertations. This activity is part of the commitment of the Master of Science and Doctoral Programs at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) to support the strengthening of students’ research capacity and encourage the development of high-quality, internationally competitive research.
