On Thursday, November 6, 2025, the Master of Science and Doctoral Program (MD) of FEB UGM held a session titled “Writing Scientific, Academic, and Professional Papers: Principles and Linguistic Aspects”, featuring Prof. Dr. Suwardjono, M.Sc., a lecturer from the Department of Accounting, FEB UGM, as
the keynote speaker. The event took place onsite from 08:00 to 12:00 WIB in the Lippo Room, 2nd Floor of the MD FEB UGM Building.
During the session, Prof. Suwardjono delivered an in-depth presentation on the fundamental principles of effective academic writing, emphasizing clarity of ideas, logical accuracy, and consistency in academic language style. He highlighted that academic writing is not merely about conveying information but also about communicating ideas in a systematic, objective, and convincing manner.
In addition, Prof. Suwardjono explained the distinctive characteristics of scientific, academic, and professional writing, noting how each requires different structures and presentation styles. Participants were also encouraged to understand the importance of linguistic aspects such as diction, cohesion, and coherence, which are essential for producing effective and credible written work.
The session was highly interactive, allowing participants to engage directly with the speaker and discuss common challenges in academic writing, including precise word choice and strategies to strengthen academic arguments.
Through this activity, students are expected to enhance their academic and professional writing skills, enabling them to produce high-quality papers that contribute meaningfully to the advancement of knowledge. The event concluded with a group photo session featuring the speaker and all participants.
