The MD FEB UGM program has held a Writing Skills webinar which is part of the REACH (Researcher’s Enrichment) Program. The event, which aims to improve the writing skills of Master of Science students, is held online through a Zoom meeting. Prof. Suwardjono, M.Sc., Ph.D. attended as a presenter in this routine event.
In practice, this event was divided into two sessions. The first session was a discussion session, then the second session was a material presentation session. The participants in this Writing Skills webinar were all the Master of Science students batch 2020/2021 from the three study programs, namely Science in Accounting, Science in Economics, and Science in Management. The total number of participants who participated was 49 people. The participants were actively involved in conveying the problems experienced about writing, both in terms of scientific writing, and in terms of writing for publications.
In addition to providing solutions, Prof. Suwardjono gave some writing tips, starting with forming a clean and clear mindset, building strong reasoning, and paying attention to coherence and systematics between sentences. Someone who can read, of course, can also write. In essence, multiply reading the standard reading.
Some important points to note are that every time you write, you must know the variety of language, who is being addressed, and convey ideas clearly. All of these things will support the writing process. From him, we learn that writing is a process.
