Yogyakarta, December 10th, 2021

The Master of Science and Doctoral Program (MD) FEB UGM has held an open examination for doctoral promotion in Management Science for Ph.D. candidate Diyah Dumasari Siregar. Prof. Mamduh M. Hanafi, Ph.D., Head of the Management Doctoral Program, acted as Chair of the Session. In the Open Examination, presented Amin Wibowo, M.B.A., Ph.D. as the promoter and Dr. C. Budi Santoso, M.Bus. and Sari Sitalaksmi, M.Mgt., Ph.D. as co-promoter. In addition, the assessment team was also present which included Dr. Reni Rosari, M.B.A., Rr. Tur Nastiti, M.Si., Ph.D., and Dr. Hastuti Naibaho, M.Si. The team of examiners in this trial was Dian Ekowati, M.Si., M.AppCom(orgCh)., Ph.D. and Dr. Neuneung Ratna Hayati, M.M. Also attending were the families of the doctoral candidates, working relatives from PPM School of Management, and guests.

The open doctoral promotion examination was opened by the chairman of the session and then given chances to the promoter, co-promoter, assessment team, and examiner team to ask questions related to the dissertation that has been done. The Ph.D. candidate was able to answer questions well and fluently and defended the arguments for her dissertation entitled “Antecedents and Consequences of Team Self-Management Behavior: Moderating Role of Team Learning Behavior in the Relationship between Team Prosocial Motivation, Team Self-Management Behavior, and Team Organizational Citizenship Behavior,” so that she successfully graduated with the predicate “very satisfying.”

For information, Dr. Diyah Dumasari Siregar examines the behavior of team self-management, so the unit of analysis in this study is the team. This research is interesting because it has a lot of contribution to fill the research gap, where there is still little previous research on team self-management, including in Indonesia. This research also makes a practical contribution following the current phenomenon that organizations are required to adapt quickly and are dynamic.

Based on the results of previous research, the team that was given the authority of self-manage was not necessarily able to act on self-management. It means that there are times when the team is not ready. Therefore, the formation of a self-managed team alone is not enough. Thus, this study proposes the importance of measuring self-managed behavior.

This research also greatly contributes to the theoretical aspect, which fills the gap of previous research which mostly assesses behavior directly from input to output, without involving the process. Thus, in this study, she uses self-regulation theory which states that individuals in a team will achieve performance if they carry out activities sequentially. This is where process variables really influence and need to be included.

Based on the research results, successful team self-management can be achieved if it is based on the right competency model and program. Strengthening core competencies is also very necessary as the basis for team performance. Organizations can improve the team’s self-management capabilities, to achieve the optimal productivity, if they provide autonomy along with training and development. This concern must be increased, then supported by the provision of rewards.

The lecturer at PPM Management officially holds the 5452nd doctoral degree who passed the exam at Gadjah Mada University and the 312th who passed the exam at FEB UGM. Mr. Amin Wibowo, M.B.A., Ph.D. as the promoter congratulated Dr. Diyah and stated that her graduation from this doctoral program was a provision for further contributions. He ordered that Dr. Diyah publishes the results of her dissertation as a form of research contribution. More than that, maintain good relations with alumni and maintain the good name of the alma mater. (Y)
