Yogyakarta – Monday, August 6, 2018, the Doctoral Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Gadjah Mada University held a public defense of Neuneung Ratna Hayati, a doctoral student of the Study Program of Management as well as a lecturer of Widyatama University-Bandung. Dr. Neuneung Ratna Hayati, M.M., officially holds the 4096th doctorate at Gadjah Mada University and the 252nd doctorate at the Faculty of Economics and Business.
Public defense was lead by C. Budi Santoso, M. Bus., Ph.D. as a chairman committee, and attended by the promoter team, T. Hani Handoko, M.B.A., Ph.D. as a promoter, Amin Wibowo, M.B.A., Ph.D. and Ely Susanto, M.B.A., Ph.D. as co-promoters and the other committee members, Sari Sitalaksmi, M.Mgt., Ph.D., Nurul Indarti, Sivilokonom, Cand, Merc., Ph.D. and Dr. Reni Rosari. M.B.A. The dissertation completed by Neuneung Ratna Hayati entitled “The Effect of Cognitive Diversity in the Goal Interdependence and its Implications on Group Creativity: The Transactive Memory System Testing – Pengaruh Keragaman Kognitif dalam Saling Ketergantungan Tujuan serta Implikasinya terhadap Kreativitas Kelompok: Pengujian Sistem Memori Transaktif (in Bahasa)” which was declared cum laude.
Her dissertation aims to examine the positive effect of perceived cognitive diversity among group members on the Transactive Memory System (TMS) group, the moderating effect of orientation of goal interdependence in a group on the positive effect of cognitive diversity on TMS group, and the positive effect of TMS group on group creativity. The unit of analysis of this study was at the group level that consists of 92 working groups from various organizations in Indonesia. The result of the data analysis showed that three hypotheses proposed were not conformed to the predictions in the literature study. However, this research provides an interesting insight that the relation between TMS and its antecedents and consequences is not in simple positive linear form. Neuneung Ratna Hayati said that the existence of disagreements or communication problems and the influence of specific group contexts (group types, group assignments) give an indication why cognitive diversity has a negative effect on TMS. Besides, the group faultlines also potentially contributed to these negative effects.
As her promoter, T. Hani Handoko, M.B.A., Ph.D. remarked to the new Doctor, Dr. Neuneung Ratna Hayati, M.M., to stay motivated and not discouraged, keep holding integrity values, and inspire other students. He also hopes that the results of this study are beneficial for the nation, state, and alma mater. (TLU)
