This activity is a series of Researcher’s Enrichment (REACH) program which is held for 2 (two) days specifically for new students of the MD FEB UGM program to improve student soft skills. The first day of the REACH program took place on the 3rd floor of the BRI Auditorium The MD FEB UGM Program Building was guided by the Academic, Student Affairs, and Collaboration Program Manager of the MD FEB UGM, RR. Tur Nastiti., Ph.D. The direction of the new students was attended by 56 students of the Regular Science Masters Program, 29 students of the Matriculation Master of Science Study Program, and 23 students of the Doctoral Program.

The event began with a prayer and sang 2 (two) songs titled Indonesia Raya and UGM Hymn followed by several sessions to be filled by the management board. The first material session was related to “Mission and Vision, FEB Values, MD FEB UGM Curriculum Program” by Prof. Jogiyanto Hartono, Ph.D., as the Program Coordinator and Chair of the Accounting Study Program. Prof. Jogiyanto explained that the MD FEB UGM program was supported by 106 teaching staff with doctorates with details of 30 lecturers who are professors and 87% of them graduated from doctorates abroad. In addition, it also explains the admissions statistics of the Master of Science and Doctoral programs in the academic year 2019/2020 with a very rigorous selection process in screening potential students. The mission and vision of MD FEB UGM has also changed for the purpose of becoming a university with advanced quality at the international level by successfully maintaining AACSB accreditation as the only Faculty of Economics and Business in Indonesia.

The second session continued with material from Nurul Indarti, Sivilokonom, Cand. Merc., Ph.D, as the Chairperson of the Management Study Program presenting “Academic and Non-Academic Regulations for the FEB UGM Program”. On this occasion explained about academics such as the duration of student studies, curriculum, international conference assistance, publication obligations for doctoral programs, resident time as well as academic leave and graduation. Furthermore, it is explained other academic regulations ranging from lectures to finance. Nurul Indarti stressed the importance of attitudes, behavior, and manners in studying by explaining public order such as neatly dressed and polite, financial order and postponement of payment order. It is intended to enable students to achieve regularity and comfort in studying so that they succeed not only academically but also with good character.

Furthermore, Prof. Catur Sugianto, M.A., Ph.D. as Head of the Economics Study Program explained about the dynamics of campus life in the “Campus Life, Time Management” session. Prof. Catur explained about what students must prepare and understand while studying in the MD FEB UGM Program in particular, in Yogyakarta in general. On this occasion also, Prof. Catur emphasizes the importance of life balance where students not only study on campus but also explore themselves in the community and the surrounding environment. In addition, it was also explained that the value system is like “non-excludable good” meaning that there is no limit for students to get an A grade. So between students there is no need to compete with each other, it is better to build an attitude of collaboration and cooperation with mutual assistance such as sharing or learning together material as an effort to build networking. After Prof. Catur delivered the material, participants were invited to take a photo together with the staff / employees along with the management and continued lunch together.

The fourth session was given by Prof. Dr. Dr. Sutaryo, S.P (Ak.), Professor of Heematology and Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine UGM on “UGM Philosophy Seminar”. UGM’s philosophy consists of two values, namely 1) Pancasila and Indonesian Culture and 2) Science, Reality, and Truth. Meanwhile, UGM’s identity consists of five values, namely UGM as a National University, University of Struggle, University of Pancasila, University of Democracy, and University of Culture Center. Prof. Sutaryo also related the BPUPKI session, the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, and the history of the establishment of UGM and how UGM had a central role in guarding independence by upholding national unity. This event aims to instill the values and love of UGM in new students. At the end of the session, Prof. Sutaryo conveyed the message to all participants that “Demanding knowledge in Gadjah Mada [Universitas Gadjah Mada] is an obligation.” This message must be understood and permeated by every new student as part of Universitas Gadjah Mada.
