Yogyakarta-Tuesday, 4 August 2020. Airlangga Surya K. M.Sc., alumni of the Master of Science in Management program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada, won the best paper award at the International Graduates Colloquium (IGC). This conference is part of The 5th International Conference on Management in Emerging Markets (ICMEM) 2020 which was held virtually by the School of Business and Management , Bandung Institute of Technology (SBM ITB) on 3rd-4th August 2020. The paper presented by Airlangga was entitled “The Role of Openness to Change Value System and Positive Affect on Pragmatic Legitimacy Judgment: Company Familiarity as Moderating Variable” and was his thesis which was conducted with Dr. Rangga Almahendra, S.T., M.M., his master supervisor.

Research which was conducted by Airlangga and Dr. Rangga Almahendra, S.T., M.M. was based on the fact that the assessment of the company’s pragmatic legitimacy is basically not only a phenomenon at the organizational level, but also at the individual level. Using data from 211 respondents and using the structural equation modeling–partial least square (SEM-PLS) method, this study uses variables at the individual level such as the value system of openness to change, positive affection, and company familiarity that have the potential to influence the pragmatic legitimacy of the company. The result shows that the value system of openness to change and positive affection has a positive effect on the pragmatic legitimacy of the company. Furthermore, company familiarity moderates the effect of the openness value system on changes in pragmatic legitimacy assessments, but there is no evidence that firm familiarity moderates the effect of positive affection on pragmatic legitimacy judgments.

The total number of papers presented at IGC 2020 was 64 presenters and the background of the participants were S2 and S3 students who had just finished writing a thesis/dissertation. The scientific articles that successfully presented in IGC 2020 conference is planned to be published in the International Journal of Business and Society, a reputable international journal ranked Q3. Other than that, Airlangga successfully graduated from the Master of Science in Management Program with cum laude predicate in July 2020. For him, the role of the supervisor is very important “My supervisor was not only supports academic aspects such as providing ideas and assisting in the preparation of my thesis, but also did not hesitate to assist in technical and material aspects so that this collaboration was awarded the best paper predicate at the IGC”.
