BAPPENAS – Fiscal Year 2019
Our unit, the Directorate of Population Planning and Social Protection BAPPENAS has provided funds to the Research on Social Protection and Inequality Reduction (Kajian Sistem Perlindungan Sosial dan Penurunan Ketimpangan) to invite Indonesian post-graduate students for scholarly work as Research Assistant (RA).
The aim is to promote research work that leads to publication and policymaking. The positions would suit for students who are in the phase of: pre-doctoral, in-doctoral, and post-doctoral with interests revolves around welfare, inequality, poverty, and social protection in Indonesia.
RAs should have a definite plan of research or prior publication on relevant subjects. The main aim should be preparing an article to be submitted in a reputable academic journal. Work on textbooks or other types of manuscripts may also be considered. We expect RAs to already be involved in an on-going research project.
RAs are sought for early April to 31 December to work with us for 1-2 day/week or more on specific pieces of research and research communications as follows:
1. RA in research, impact and communications
One person is sought with excellent writing skills to co-write working papers, peer-refereed academic journal articles, op-eds and approach national media outlets to place op-eds and promote research. Some media experience including drafting text for a wide audience and approaching media outlets are important. There will also be evidencing impact of existing research to be conducted.
2. RA in data analysis and literature reviews
One person is sought to work on national datasets and literatures related to demography, inequality, and social protection. Skills in data analysis and software skills are essential. Skills in surveying literature quickly for key arguments, supporting evidence, etc are important.

Director in consultations with other staff members will then make a decision to accept or reject the application. The decision could take between 2 to 4 weeks after those deadlines. If you do not yet have a well-defined project or prior publications, we do not encourage you to apply. In several cases, we will ask the applicants to revise their work outlines and re-apply. If you are accepted you will be asked to provide some additional personal information and complete a number of administrative forms.
